Where Projects Break Down
Projects rarely fail due to a lack of data. They fail when data is misaligned, oversimplified, or not integrated in a way that reflects how the system actually behaves.
This can show up as:
- Geological models that do not explain variability
- Conflicting datasets across teams or disciplines
- New technologies generating data without clear application
- Assumptions embedded in workflows that are not being tested
- Disconnects between technical interpretation and project or investment decisions
These gaps introduce uncertainty into how projects are evaluated — affecting technical outcomes, development strategies, and ultimately how risk and value are understood.
LKI Consulting is brought in to resolve these issues and clarify how data supports decision-making.
How We Support
Geological System Definition
Define how a system behaves by integrating geochemistry, mineralogy, and spatial datasets into a coherent framework, rather than relying on simplified interpretations or models.
Investment & Technical Risk
Assess how geological uncertainty and data limitations influence project risk, valuation, and decision-making. This includes identifying where assumptions may be overstated, untested, or misaligned with the underlying data.
Technical Advisory
Independent review of technical assumptions, workflows, and interpretations that impact project understanding and performance.
Capability Building
Training and workflows that improve internal interpretation and decision-making across technical teams.
Our Approach
LKI Consulting’s work is grounded in geology, geochemistry and mineralogy because these datasets provide direct insight into how geological systems behave.
However, the focus is not on generating more data.
The focus is on understanding how data is structured, identifying where assumptions are introduced, and determining whether interpretations are supported.
This approach ensures that geological understanding reflects system behavior and provides a clearer basis for technical and investment decisions.
Case Study Identifying Misaligned Assumptions in Geological Interpretation
A dataset supported multiple interpretations, but the working model simplified variability into a single domain.
Through integration of geochemistry and hyperspectral data, LKI Consulting identified discrete domains that behaved differently and were not represented in the model.
This shifted the understanding of the system and highlighted where technical assumptions were overstating consistency, with implications for both project risk and valuation.
Industry Contribution
LKI Consulting supports the geoscience community through sponsoring GeOCHemISTea, a platform for mentorship, knowledge-sharing, and discussion across industry, academia, and government.
